  • The Zen Ashiatsu Clinic and Laser Therapy

     

    Why do we offer laser therapy treatments at the Zen Ashiatsu Clinic?

    Five years ago, when the Zen Ashiatsu Clinic was created, our main motivation was already, and always will be, the fierce fight by exclusively natural means against cervical, back, lumbar and sciatic pain.

    From the beginning, we developed Ashiatsu-based treatment protocols because this multi-millennial modality, derived from traditional Chinese medicine, allowed us to achieve superior results in the treatment of pain without the use of drugs, to those obtained by any other type of massages.

    However, over the past four years, knowing that this was a promising field of expertise, we have maintained a constant technological watch on the latest research on the therapeutic applications and analgesic properties of polyvalent LLLT (Low Level Laser Therapy) in the presence of cervical, dorsal, lumbar and sciatic pain.

    Finally, a few months ago, the arrival in Canada of a new polyvalent LLLT laser generator, approved by the US Food and Drugs Administration and Health Canada, marks the culmination of more than 35 years of research on lasers and their analgesic effects, carried out in many universities spread over the five continents.

    The results are convincing. It has been scientifically proven that the use of polyvalent LLLT lasers for the treatment of pain helps to reduce the latter considerably and can even make it disappear as a result of a treatment plan carefully adapted to the specific needs of the person being treated.

    Then, and in line with our original objectives, we invested in our first polyvalent LLLT laser generator in January 2018 and performed extensive testing with some of our patients who presented with mild to extreme pain; punctual or chronic, in order to ensure that we are well versed in its use.

    The results we have achieved are undeniable and we are pleased, from now on, to offer access to polyvalent LLLT laser therapy for the treatment of cervical, dorsal, lumbar and sciatic pain to all of our patients that qualify for it.

    For the record, according to the company that distributes this new technology in Canada, it seems that the Zen Ashiatsu Clinic is, at the beginning of March 2018, the first specialized massotherapy clinic that offers this new technology to its patients, in the Montreal metropolitan area.

    What is laser therapy?

    Light, a source of plant life – photosynthesis

    We all know that without light there would be no life on earth.

    It is through photosynthesis that living plants cells convert the energy provided by sunlight into stable chemical energy that can be assimilated by their organism which, in turn, transforms the inorganic photons matter into organic matter.

    Hence, when exposed to light, plants develop, grow and produce their flowers and fruits.

    It is this process, called photosynthesis, that feeds the immuable cycle of vegetal life.

    Light, source of animal life – photobiomodulation

    Like living plant cells, the animal cells that form the basis of our living tissues also have an essential need to be stimulated by light.

    Exposed to light, our bodies use the powers of photobiomodulation to transform the inorganic matter of photons into organic matter that produce the biological compounds and vitamins that allow our skin; our muscles, our bones and our organs to support the regeneration of our blood and our cells and thus repair the damage caused by trauma; diseases or aging.

    Photobiomodulation is therefore essential in feeding the immutable cycle of animal life.

    The recent arrival in Canada of the polyvalent LLLT laser generator that we use at the Zen Ashiatsu Clinic marks the culmination of more than 35 years of research at many universities across the five continents.

    Much more powerful than its predecessors, this latest generation device produces a smart laser beam that accurately targets and treats damaged human tissue to stimulate metabolic activity; relieve inflammation and control pain while initiating healing.

    1. What are the biological effects of polyvalent LLLT laser treatments on tissues?

    The beam of the polyvalent LLLT laser produces its effects on the cell membrane and on the mitochondria, ie on the organelles that produce the energy of the cell.

    The treatment produces the following results:

    – An increase in metabolic activity that accelerates the transformation of ATP into ADP (cell fuel – see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translocase_ATP/ADP); promotes electrolytic exchanges between intra- and extra-cellular media that cross the cell membrane and stimulates the production of DNA, RNA, amino acids and proteins.

    – In the treatment of pain, the polyvalent LLLT laser increases the threshold of excitation of nerve endings that transmit the signal of pain.

    – Vasodilatation, by the minimal increase in local heat that stimulates the cellular metabolic activity, enhances the neuro-vegetative reaction and adjusts the intra-capillary hydrostatic pressure.

    – Increased lymphatic drainage, by accelerating the sodium / potassium pump, which causes a greater absorption of interstitial fluids and promotes microcirculation.

    – Strong stimulating and anti-inflammatory action for the cellular tissue, caused by the modification of the prostaglandins (which awakens the production of inflammatory liquid) in prostacycline.

    – Slight change in PH inside and outside the cells.

    2. What are the therapeutic effects of polyvalent LLLT laser therapy on the body?

    The effects of polyvalent LLLT laser therapy on the body are:

    –  Analgesic, because it considerably increases the threshold of pain.

    – Anti-inflammatory, by the transformation of prostacyclin into prostaglandins and by the increase of microcirculation.

    – Biostimulants, by stimulating the metabolism that accelerates the healing of all tissues and causes the closure of muscle wounds that have no surgical indication because it promotes the formation of fibrous scar tissue.

    – Relaxation of tissues due to the micro-thermal effect and increased metabolism.

    3. What are the indications and contraindications of the polyvalent LLLT laser therapy?

    The polyvalent LLLT laser therapy is indicated; recommended and recognized as being effective for tendinitis, sprains, bruises, osteoarthritis, inflammations, edema, ulcers, fractures and wounds.

    The goal of polyvalent LLLT laser therapy is not to simply “warm up”, but to eliminate pain and discomfort to mobility by restoring the cells lost balance due to trauma, aging or premature wear in the tissues.

    The few contraindications are pregnancy, proximity to a pacemaker, malignancy, and epilepsy.

    4. Can the laser beam of our polyvalent LLLT laser generator burn the treated tissues or cause cancer?

    This is impossible because the photons wavelengths generated by the device have nothing in common with ultraviolet rays, X-rays or radioactive radiation that are harmful and can create dangerous lesions to living tissues.

    The wavelengths, frequencies, power levels and duration of the application of the laser beam can not create any lesions or damage of any kind in treated tissues; even if the exposure time is well in excess of the prescribed time.

    Polyvalent LLLT laser treatments are completely safe, as long as you protect your eyes and those of the therapist by wearing a pair of special protective glasses that will be provided during your treatment.

    5. How long can polyvalent LLLT laser treatments results last?

    Each case is different and the answer to this question will vary depending on the exact nature of the problem; its intensity; its duration at the start of treatment; the age of the affected person; his/her lifestyle and his/her own determination to faithfully follow the treatment plan that will be proposed to him/her.

    Since the effects of polyvalent LLLT laser treatments are cumulative, it is reasonable to expect that pain will begin to decrease after the first 3 or 4 treatments. After that initial phase, the effectiveness of each subsequent treatment is increased until significant results are obtained.

    In general, it takes between 6 and 8 treatments, 2 to 3 times a week, to obtain convincing and lasting results in most cases.

    In cases with acute chronic pain that has been present for more than a year, 12 to 15 treatments, on average, should be expected.

    6. Are the results of a versatile laser treatment sustainable?

    They can certainly be, to the extent that the person treated will decide to adopt a healthy way of life and will avoid repeating the situations; the repetitive gestures and poor postures that have been responsible for the initial formation of the lesions causing the limitation of mobility and pain.
